Endoscopic Procedures
Gastroscopy
A flexible tube is inserted through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. It is used to diagnose conditions such as acid reflux, ulcers, and gastritis, and to perform biopsies or remove polyps.

Colonoscopy
A flexible tube with a camera is passed through the anus to examine the large intestine and rectum. A colonoscopy is used to screen for colorectal cancer, diagnose inflammatory bowel disease, and remove polyps during the procedure. It usually takes 20 to 45 minutes.

Dr Calvin Koh underwent advanced endoscopy fellowship training which includes performing colonoscopy with resection of large colon polyps.

Advanced Procedures
Specialist-led interventions for digestive and liver conditions, performed at Gleneagles, Mount Elizabeth Novena and Mount Alvernia.
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
- Assessment of gastrointestinal wall thickness and surrounding structures.
- Targeted fine needle aspiration for tissue sampling.
- Guided placement of stents for obstructive biliary disease.
- Dr Calvin Koh does endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) both diagnostic as well as therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound.
ERCP
- Diagnostic and therapeutic intervention for bile duct and pancreatic duct disease.
- Removal of stones and placement of stents for ductal obstruction.
- Specialist-led management of complex pancreatic conditions.
- Dr Calvin Koh performs endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) as well as manages biliary strictures and complex stone disease with cholangioscopy.
Luminal Stenting
- Placement of metallic or plastic stents to relieve malignant or benign strictures.
- Restoration of bowel and biliary tract patency.
- Management of obstructive complications in cancer and inflammatory conditions.
- Dr Calvin Koh perfoms endoluminal stenting.
Recovery & Care
Following your procedure, your care team will provide specific guidance to ensure a safe and comfortable recovery process.
Fasting Instructions
Strict fasting is required for most endoscopic procedures. You will be advised to refrain from food and drink for at least 8 hours prior to your appointment to ensure a clear digestive tract and reduce the risk of aspiration.
Sedation Guidelines
You will receive sedation during the procedure. After sedation, you will be monitored until the effects wear off. It is essential to have a responsible adult accompany you home and avoid driving or operating machinery for the remainder of the day.
Post-Procedure Recovery
After the procedure, you will be given specific instructions regarding your diet and activity level. Most patients can resume normal activities within 24 hours, but you should avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise until your doctor gives you clearance.
